Famous for its Supercassis crème de cassis, the liqueur-producing firm of Vedrenne Père et Fils originated when Joseph Védrenne travelled from town to town with a mobile still visiting farms to convert their harvested grapes into brandy. This continued until 1923 when he established his distillery at Nuits St Georges in the famous Burgundy wine region of France.
Joseph Védrenne chose the small town of Nuits St Georges not only for the excellent wine available for making the local brandy, 'Fine de Bourgogne', but also for its blackcurrant fields on the slopes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, allowing him to process fruit immediately after picking to minimise deterioration due to oxidisation and fermentation. This led to the creating of Supercassis, one of the most highly regarded crème de cassis brands.
Today, Védrenne is a family-owned group of French distilleries and liqueur producers that continue the long-standing local traditions established by Joseph Védrenne and other pioneers, and this legacy of valuable expertise has been recognized with Living Heritage Company certification.
In the 1950s, the company's expertise was developed to include new fruits, plants and spices. Today, Védrenne is present in more than 60 countries, in cocktail bars, and in more traditional hospitality sectors. Over the decades, Védrenne has acquired and developed unique experience and expertise in the production of syrups, liqueurs and spirits while being particularly expert in maceration and distillation. Modern equipment allows the maceration of fruit without exposing it to air and light, enabling Védrenne to create a wide range of products.
All Védrenne liqueurs are produced at its distillery in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the company collaborates with a network of local fruit farming cooperatives, a glassmaker, and label printers.
