Wolves Whiskey Brand Story

The founders of Wolves Whiskey are both from the world of fashion. By focusing on the emerging American Single Malt Whiskey category, they have undeniably created a very fashionable whiskey.

James Bond is one of the co-founders of Undefeated, the Los Angeles-based streetwear and sneaker boutique. His partner in Wolves Whiskey, Jon Buscemi, is an American fashion designer who co-founded Gourmet and his eponymous Buscemi luxury footwear brand. Wolves Whiskey was launched in 2017, with their first whiskey released in May 2019.

Such was the anticipation and demand for that initial release, that Wolves became the first whiskey sold via an allocation list. That first release, at $150 a bottle, sold out in a week. The price of subsequent releases has increased while the time it takes for each to sell out has dropped from days to hours, and even minutes.

Happily, as well as the limited barrel lot releases, Wolves now offers a more accessible American Single Malt Whiskey that's been matured for five years in ex-California wine barrels in the Arizona heat, then blended and finished with a final ageing period in French oak ex-cognac casks.

Behind the name

Wolves is an American whiskey, founded and made in the American West and proudly marketed "as the luxury standard bearer in the newly-emerging American Single Malt category." But what's behind the name?

Part of the Canine family, wolves share more than 99% of their DNA with dogs and are clever animals with sophisticated social rituals. Once native to the American West, wolves began to decline as the Western wilderness was developed for human settlement, forcing wolves to recede.

The folk at Wolves Whiskey say, "Wolves Whiskey reignites those once-lost values of instinct, skill, and uncompromising quality. Our whiskey is an invitation to run free again, untethered to the mundanity of our modern world. Just as the Western wilderness is slowly restored to its natural magnificence, and its wolves return home, Wolves Whiskey represents a return to pleasure, ritual, and taste."
