The Glenglassaugh Distillery was founded in 1875 by a local entrepreneur the in 1875 and has since been plagued by periods of disuse, the latest lasting from 1986 to 2008, when Amsterdam-based Lumiere Holdings bought Glenglassaugh from Edrington for GBP5m (US$7.5m) and restarted production. In March 2013 BenRiach purchased Glenglassaugh from Lumiere Holdings.
