Pronounced ‘Glen-Glas-Uff’, Scotland’s most coastal mainland distillery, Glenglassaugh Distillery lies just outside the boundary of the Speyside region in the Highlands, overlooking Sandend Bay by Portsoy.
The Glenglassaugh Distillery was founded in 1875 by a local entrepreneur the in 1875 and has since been plagued by periods of disuse, the latest lasting from 1986 to 2008, when Amsterdam-based Lumiere Holdings bought Glenglassaugh from Edrington for GBP5m (US$7.5m) and restarted production. In March 2013 BenRiach purchased Glenglassaugh from Lumiere Holdings.
