F.X. Matt is a family-owned brewery in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in Utica, New York State. It was established by Francis Xavier Matt I who was a brewer at in Germany’s Black Forest region before immigrating to the USA in 1880. Matt worked at the Charles Bierbauer Brewery in Utica before establishing it as the The West End Brewing Company in 1888.

First renamed the Matt Brewing Company and then the F.X. Matt Brewing Company in 1980, the company continues to be owned and run by the founder’s decedents.
