Thanks for the response Simon. By the way, a suggestion for the site. I like the fact we can see our comments, but it would be more useful if they also linked back to the original comments list, otherwise the context gets a bit lost. Thanks again.

I have a Bardinet Maraschino and I feel it’s overpowering in this cocktail. Anybody have any experience with it? I want to know if it’s worth picking up some Luxardo or if maybe I just don’t like maraschino.

Same here Jock. I did a 1,1,1,1/2 with the maraschino and added another 1/4 simple. Worked a lot better.

I think the full name of the original was "Drunk in the August Sun." The original was a little too sweet, this version is better.

I made a minor tweak, adding about 3/8 oz lime juice. Wray & Nephew for the rum, Harvey's Bristol Cream for the sherry.
Very good cocktail -- a flavor profile that's unique, full, complex but fun.

Not sure if you made it with that or not, but Bristol cream is significantly sweeter than most fino sherry. That may be the difference you note in the original being too sweet.
