I can’t quite figure out what I think about this very bizarre but not unpleasant cocktail. I like it?
I like all the components, but this didn't work for me. Might try with slightly less mezcal or maybe the same spec but with a little grapefruit or lemon juice.
Felt exactly the same. Planning to try one that just omits the mezcal.
I made a small portion of this as written, and loved it. But I wanted something lighter than gin tonight (and to work through that open bottle of fino sherry), so I tried a "reverse" version of this and it was fab... 120ml of fino sherry, 15ml lemon, 10ml simple syrup, just a bar spoon of gin for the flavour, and a couple dashes of orange bitters. Nice if you're in the mood for something slightly less dry.
Definitely needs to be rye - bourbon would be too sweet - but a nice option for a lower ABV sipper.
I make a version of this that replaces the vermouth with an equal amount of Crème de Cacao. So far it’s a crowd pleaser.
That’s an excellent idea.
I didn’t like this when I made it from this recipe, but then followed a ratio from another cocktail guide (2 1/2 shots Dolin Dry, 1/2 shot Benedictine, teaspoon absinthe) & am enjoying it very much.
I’ve been eyeing this cocktail for a Haar & finally got a bottle of Fernet Branca to try it. Delicious. The cream really cuts the intensity.
Holy hell, that’s good. And surprising. I happened to have all of these ingredients to hand, and am so glad I was looking for a way to use some mezcal today.
Fantastic. Love the mix of the two vodkas but would prefer this with 1/4 shot of simple syrup (personal preference is just a touch of sweet).
This is my new favorite drink. Smoky, herbal, sweet, complex. So glad I bought that bottle of Luxardo Maraschino.
I made this in an attempt to find a way I enjoy absinthe more since that 70cl is going to to last forever for Sazerac rinses. Turns out?m, I quite like an absinthe sour! Pleasant surprise for this absinthe agnostic.
Oh, this was delicious! I actually made it with spiced rum, as that’s what I had on hand, and while I suppose that’s a whole other drink, it was very good - moved from afternoon aperitif to cozy vanilla-infused winter evening drink.
Loved this. The perfect apertif, especially for Vermouth lovers.
I did not expect to like this as much as I did! Really lovely herbal balance (I used Dolin red & dry vermouth, and Bols sloe gin).
