This beer's unusual name derives from the 19th century. Rather than referring to a specific production process, 'steam' appears to have been a nickname for beer brewed on America's West Coast without using ice.

Brewed with a blend of 2-Row pale and Caramel malts with Northern Brewer hops. It's fermented with lager yeast in shallow open-air fermenters and is gently carbonated through a natural process called 'kräusening.'
