Criado em fevereiro de 2014 por Simon Difford, depois de ler errado uma receita de um Sangre Dulce, de Regina Butler do Blackbird Bar, em San Francisco. Valet Falernum no lugar de Fernet Vallet resultou no novo drink. O nome vem da planta usada na produção do mezcal, que é categorizada como "suculenta", aquelas que são grossas e carnudas, que conseguem reter água em climas áridos.
