2019 Competition

The fifth edition of Fabbri's international cocktail competition, Lady Amarena, saw over 4,000 bartenders participate from five continents across the globe, as far afield as Singapore and Germany.

A competition for female bartenders, this year's Lady Amarena challenged entrants to enter a unique recipe while also demonstrating experimental flavours or healthier alternatives. The recipes were required to include Amarena Fabbri, Mixybar Amarena Fabbri or Marendry Bitter Fabbri.

The international finalists

Following online registration, selected bartenders competed at national finals to earn the national crown and a place at the international finals.

The final

On 16th October 2019, the 12 international finalists gathered in Bologna, Italy, to go head to head, while Bruno Vanzan, a flair bartending world champion and Fabbri brand ambassador, served as host of the event.

The competition was judged by Sandrae Lawrence (The Cocktail Lovers), Isabelle Abram (F&B journalist), Jessie Smyth (Stubborn Nail, Genever bar), and drinks journalists Nicole Cavazzuti and Rossella De Stefano, while Lucia Montanelli (The Dorchester, London) led as flavour jury. Forming the technical jury was Fenia Athanasiadi (Lady Amarena 2017), Ilaria Bello (Talea bar manager and Fabbri local brand ambassador), and Andriani Vladimirou (Lady Amarena 2018).

The judges named Liu Ting Zheng (otherwise known as Tammy Liu) from Mary Magnate in Shanghai, the international Lady Amarena 2019 for her outstanding cocktail, Ciao Bella.

Following her win, Tammy Liu talked about equality, "Do not call us bar ladies, do not call us women bartenders: today we are simply bartenders ... Unfortunately women are still too often perceived as those who trivially wait tables. I hope this mentality disappears, also thanks to a competition like Lady Amarena."

Penelope Agrimanaki, Greece, was awarded second place, while third place went to Adriana Firicano, Italy.
