Just when we thought we were too cool for school, or rather too cool for another bar in Hoxton Square, comes Moniker's. You'd be forgiven for thinking that this jam-packed area of Shoreditch couldn't fit another bar in but you'd be wrong. Tucked away in the corner of the square this restaurant and bar is hosted in an old primary school gym slash chemistry lab.
Everything fits into this wonderful time-warp of blackboards, world maps, lab stools, gym benches and water beakers. That's all before you climb up to the mezzanine hosted inside a bus, complete with steering wheel and windows.
The bar presents its menu inside an exercise book, which you can decorate with stickers and crayons. Serving nine classically oriented cocktails, priced between £7-8, this is where the school analogy ends for surely no primary schoolchild should be consuming these, even in science class. Leaning to the sweeter side of things the drinks are well made and promptly served and nod to all the major spirits. If this is what staying behind after school means as an adult we'll happily present ourselves for detention.
