Review

The adventures of Phileas Fogg and his trip around the world in 80 days is the theme behind this quirky cocktail parlour in the heart of Mayfair. The back-streets venue is not sign-posted so look for a uniformed doorman, or ring an old-fashioned bell to get admittance to a Victorian-inspired treasure trove of curios from across the globe (eBay and flea markets probably).

The success of such theming is the extent to which the team behind it are fully dedicated to the approach, and happily everything is on-message for a totally immersive experience - from the emails you receive that confirm your reservation in flowery Victorian speak, to the bell-boy uniformed staff deliver drinks to tables and the fact Jules Verne's book is even narrated from speakers in the toilets. You'd expect nothing less from the team behind Silvio Berlusconi Italian-themed bar Bunga Bunga and 1980s Thatcher-inspired club Maggie's.

Drinks are served in bespoke glassware and the menu mixes classics with original concoctions that reference Mr Fogg's adventures. The bar team has been assembled by Mark Jenner, formerly manager of the Connaught Bar at the Connaught Hotel, and are predictably accomplished and armed with a fair few technical and presentational flourishes.
