Opened by renowned chef Jason Atherton as a partner venue to The Study down the road, The Library is, like all his Singapore ventures, now independent of Mr Atherton. Yet this classic Keong Saik Road speakeasy has aged well - so well that annoyingly you still need a password to get through the little record shop (almost opposite Teck Lim Road) that fronts it and out into the secret bar out back. If you've not already found the password via the likes Facebook, you'll find a clue normally in the artwork above what is obviously a hidden door directly in front of the door from the street as you walk in.
Once inside, you'll find a 1980s-themed bar with a most fabulous riveted copper bar counter that's straight out of a steampunk novel or perhaps Brazil. Fans of Jason's Blind Pig in London will find plenty that's familiar here, though it's very far from a clone.
There's plenty of humour on the cocktail list, and a tonne of invention, whether you're opting for something strong from the Al Capone list, a sharing punch from the Marley list, or something crazy from the Warhol section. The bartenders know their stuff and can mix up classic cocktails if required, but house-made concoctions like the Negroni-style Italian Roots reward exploring.
