Review

A market street strewn with accompanying debris makes for an unlikely spot for a New York styled cocktail lounge with an equally unlikely name, apparently Gaelic for 'life & soul. The party here is driven by cocktails and music with each catered for respectively across Anam?s two small floors.

The interior has something of a 70s feel with dark wood laminates set against white walls with round-cornered mirrors and red leather booth seating. Anam has a tiny footprint so if the bouncer decides there actually is a little bit of room for you inside, you may have to elbow your way to the bar. The second bar downstairs is usually no less crowded and is home to the DJ, decks and all essential glitter ball.

The bartenders here are used to working under pressure and drinks are quickly turned out and all things considered, well made. The beer offering is mainstream with Becks the only draught option and not much beyond Corona and Peroni by the bottle.

The first floor toilets are noteworthy due to the two genders being separated by an aquarium tank so girl sees boy as they wash their hands and the fish swim between them.
