The Amsterdam 'mini-me' outpost of the Parisian Buddha-bar phenomenon. When I say 'mini' I use the term relatively as this is a huge bar occupying over 1,000 square metres with a sushi bar below and a restaurant above.
Housed in the Old City cinema theatre, Little Buddha's exterior sadly has something of the appearance of a dowdy museum café. However, once inside, this is a visually impressive place which mimics the look and feel of Buddha-bar Paris. A wide sweeping staircase breaks up the space and leads up to the mezzanine restaurant while a giant golden statue of the Buddha looks approvingly on.
Come here early evening, 5pm - 8pm, and you'll be offered 'Spiritual Refreshments' as a 'happy hour-like deal. These are basically Tiki cocktails such as Mai Tai, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and Zombie. I actually preferred these to the full price and more adventurous cocktails on the bar's main menu.
Little Buddha is perhaps best suited to eating Pacific Rim cuisine in an atmosphere created by Buddha Bar DJS - if you like that kind of thing. The 'Tapasjanns' finger food such as the tasty Ahi tuna pizza, duck spring rolls and gyoza chicken make great aperitivos.
