Lying in the Fitzrovia hinterland between Tottenham Court Road and Charlotte Street, Dabbous is London's latest foodie destination and the first solo venture for eponymous chef Ollie Dabbous. And very tasty the food (and bar snacks) are.
However, forget the fortnight ahead booking for dinner and head to the basement bar for cocktails and bar snacks. This is the domain of Oskar Kinberg, formerly bar manager of the Cuckoo Club. This bunker of a bar has a utilitarian feel with bare concrete, exposed brickwork and rustic steel and wood furnishings. Yet, unlike many similar 'Shoreditch design' venues, it feels homely - even cosy.
The drinks menu features numerous classics but once you feel secure with the high level of bartending on display, be daring and try one of the more out-there concoctions.
(PS. Please can we call a basement a 'basement', 'cellar' or even 'subterranean room' and not a 'lower ground floor'. Surely ground floors are at ground level?)
