Review

An all-day venue that's heavily influenced by the kitsch of the 1970s. Café Tabac has been around since the early 1970s and prides itself on its Sunday roast dinners, fresh-baked bread and nightly events - from DJ spots to film nights. At night, it throws off its café guise and becomes more of an out-and-out bar, serving up beer, wine and a small selection of cocktails.

Don't expect a long menu with flowery descriptions, and there are no expert mixologists - in fact there's nothing remotely pretentious about this small, friendly venue. Cocktails are listed on a blackboard - there's a Mai tai, Margarita, Espresso Martini, Long Island Rum, Bloody Mary, White Russian and an elderflower gin cocktail - which we found surprisingly well-executed, though you can always play safe with a pitcher of beer.
