Review

Sat in an unlikely looking narrow lane off the front, the blue and pink star-shaped neon sign that used to make this place hard to miss has been replaced by a more subdued swinging black and white pub-style sign, so you'll need to search it out.

Graham Greene and the address aside, the name is very apt as late week there is a great atmosphere in this tiny but homely little place. The bar itself lies in the middle of three rooms, with a snug area on the left and a lounge to the right. With something of a drift wood feel to the bar counter, bare wooden floors, painted and stripped plank walls, Brighton Rock is appropriately beachy. The wooden decked front terrace catches the midday sun.

There's a small range of Euro lagers on draught and a fair wine list. The cocktail list was set to change when I visited but judging from my experience there I'd expect well made and balanced drinks.

Brighton Rocks has seen difficult times recently but its new owners seem to be putting life back into one of Brighton's older bars.
