Opened in 2011, Secteur 75 sits in Mar Mikhael, an emergingly trendy district of boutiques, hipster bars and galleries, and takes its name from the main street it sits on (due to the vagaries of ongoing war, many Beirut streets have no names, but only numbers).
Sadly, the outdoor terrace is open only for weekend brunches but this artfully distressed and thoughtfully designed space is well worth a look, and not only for the spirits infusing behind the bar.
The bar area boasts chandeliers, distressed paintwork, trompe l'oeil doors, dramatic, gothic panelling and air-con ducting, while the well-regarded restaurant melds graffiti and quirky retro-styled oil paintings featuring fetishy touches such as gas-`masks.
Drinks here are genuinely interesting with, unusually for Beirut, noticeable use of local flavours such as thyme and cucumber: a Gimlet made with thyme-infused vodka, a Honey and Lavender Brandy, or, our choice, a Dry Martini made with thyme and cucumber-infused gin.
