The rather appropriately named Apple stocks more than forty different ciders, including raspberry and strawberry ciders, six different perries (pear ciders) and apple-distilled spirits such as Somerset Cider Brandy.

The staff here are happy to dispense a free taster of the draught ciders to help you decide, but you should certainly try a half of the mighty 8.4% abv Old Bristolian, and I recommend the 6.5% abv Hecks Perry. You also might want to sample the Cider Sangria, or share a jug of Bristol Pimms made with Somerset apple aperitif.

If a cider bar where not unusual enough, The Apple is housed on a converted Dutch barge that was formally a Hell's Angels bar. This place is wonderfully unpretentious and with its quayside terrace and deck bar overlooking the river, a summertime hit. In less clement months the bellow decks bar is a snug place to holdout.

The 'Build your Own' Ploughman's menu features a choice of seven different cheeses, pies, pate, Wiltshire ham and a plethora of pickles and preserves.
