The Ivy has its own crowd of West End regulars but it is also a place folk will take a cab from the city centre to get to. A young hands-on owner ably assisted by an enthusiastic team with local musicians and DJs is a recipe for a vibrant bar.
The Ivy is L-shaped and this layout effectively splits the space into two with the lower level housing the bar. By day and early evening, the upper level with its line of tables acts as something of a dining area, but this is dramatically changed when the musicians or DJ booked for that evening take up their position at the end of the room. The long wall of this room is artfully lit by golden up-lighting directed at vertical slats that resemble cooling fans.
Most of the regulars drink beer but there's a good line of rums and they won't look surprised if you order a cocktail. Fellow Londoners will understand me when I say that Ivy would fit right in to Shoreditch.
