Can be a challenge
After a two-year hiatus between visits we're happy report this is still one of the best Glasgow has to offer. Originally the bar was going to be called Bloody Mary's, but after its owner Alan Tomkins had chosen the name and made the sign, a rival bar operator registered the name. A trademark dispute followed and, after consultation with his customers, Tomkins opted for Booly Mardy's. Look carefully high up in the middle of the room, however, and you'll see the old Bloody Mary's name survives.
Inside, the place boasts modern décor with wooden tables, leather booths and a stone back-bar, evolving from a café style operation by day, with a full food menu, to a full cocktail bar at night with an impressive cocktail menu. The house Bloody Mary, and two twists including one using clamato juice and the other with equal parts vodka to tomato juice, heads a list of classics, divided by spirit categories. There are all the usual culprits to be found: Martinis, Aviations, Sours and Sidecars, all expertly made.
Friendly staff, good food and the comfort of great classic cocktails make this bar a must-visit on a trip to Glasgow.
