Jugging is the process of stewing whole animals for a long period in casserole or earthenware jug. Described in the influential 18th century cookbook, The Art of Cookery by Hannah Glasse, 'A Jugged Hare' (civet de lièvre in French) involves cutting a whole hare into pieces, marinating and cooking with red wine and juniper berries. Traditionally the hare's blood is added at end of the cooking process.

This City gastropub's name is appropriate due to its reputation for game dishes, including eponymous jugged hare.

The slick interior features a tiled vaulted ceiling, stuffed animals, walk-in wine cellar, factory tiles and white panelled walls. Sitting at the brass counter in front of the kitchen is appealing but be warned it's a location which can get hot.
