Review

This very elegant eatery and bar lies just a stone's through from Bourbon Street but has a very different atmosphere. Broussard's white and black marble floor stretches from its front door, way back, past the restaurant and the long marble bar counter to the secluded courtyard outback.

Broussard's 20 strong cocktail menu includes New Orleans classics such as the Vieux Carre, La Louisiane and Ramos gin fizz, house recipes utilising the likes of acid phosphate and champagne vinegar, and bottled punches such as Swedish punch, Pisco punch and Nuremberg punch (red wine, batavia arrack van Oosten, oranges, sugar, water).

The very serious wine list includes the likes of a 2011 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru at a mere $3,500 a bottle. For less extravagant pockets there are also 17 wines by the glass and as many wines in half bottles.

All in all, Broussard's Restaurant is a very civilised place in the heart of the French Quarter.
