Loungelover's location in a former butcher's warehouse on a grungy, cobbled Shoreditch back street sets the scene for what looks like a scrap merchant's yard filled with the hoard of a kleptomaniac. In fact both the multitude of chandeliers and the taxidermy, antiques and bric-a-brac they illuminate were assembled by the trio of antiques dealers who also own Les Trois Garçons, a respected and equally unique nearby restaurant.
The drinkers are as diverse and unusual as the décor ranging from arty, media types to young bankers and solicitors who have moved into the area due to its proximity to the City. The cocktail list with its many original concoctions is also inimitable but not always perfectly executed.
Loungelover would be an unusual venue to find in any location, but in London's East End, a short walk from the curry houses of Brick Lane, it is bizarre and truly superb.
