If you love ham and if you love oysters, then Hog & Rocks is going to be the manifestation of all your worldly dreams. The restaurant and bar knows what it’s good at, and it does it well. On arrival, you’re given a paper sheet which lists meats and Prosciutto on the top half, and oysters at the bottom. Each selection has a box next to it for you to scribble in how many servings of each order you want.
There are ten well-chosen cocktails on the menu – nothing too sophisticated, but all very well made and reasonably priced. There’s also a beer and shot blackboard behind the bar, which suggests interesting pairings from Pilsner Urquell with Bols Genever and Firestone Oatmeal Stout with Fighting Cock bourbon.
There is a long bar across the back wall, and lots of big tables good for groups. The only problem is that the space fills up very quickly and can feel quite cramped. As a parting recommendation, don’t leave without trying the Tres Agaves Añejo – it’s owned by the proprietor and is a great tipple.
