By day this slick bar and its adjoining restaurant are frequented by the Bristolian ladies that lunch as they rest between designer purchases in this most upmarket of department stores. They appear to return after store hours, this time with husbands and boyfriends in tow.
Harvey Nic’s Second Floor bar is a simmering, slightly clinical vision with metallic fabric covered banquette and drapes. These face a long underlit glowing onyx bar, behind which shelves groan with a suitably up-market spirits selection. Large windows look out on the sounding modern shopping centres with nearby H&M and Topshop a reminder of the real world outside.
The bar has a good wine selection with 15 by the glass but oenophiles can request the weighty wine menu from the restaurant and wine shop. The bar also lists a well rounded list of classic cocktails and HN Bristol house specials.
Although something of a destination and lacking the hoi-polloi and atmosphere of less salubrious bars, this is a remarkably civilised place to imbibe.
