Spread over two floors, this mico-club come speakeasy-styled lounge takes its name from Howlin’ Wolf’s seminal blues track ‘Smokestack Lightning’. Appropriately so, as Orleans funk, Harlem Jazz, Chicago blues and reggae are what drive the very Memphis soul of this place.
An unpromising entrance takes you up a functional set of stairs to a first floor bar with built-in banquet seating and leaners. Later in the week the attic opens where you’ll find ‘The Roost’ housing another bar and a dance floor under an open beamed ceiling. Here DJs drive a party atmosphere.
Unpretentious, homely and atmospheric with great cocktails, a fine selection of beers, friendly staff and soulful music.
Bring a duck! Smokestack has a growing collection of small plastic ducks. Take a fun looking one and you may be in line for a comp’ed drink.
