Still one of relatively few Sydney bars with a genuinely late license - although the Duke bistro upstairs has sadly shut - the Flinders now faces increasing competition from Frankie's Pizza, the latest offering from the folk behind Shady Pines Saloon, which also boasts a late license, has a more central location, and is packing the hospitality crowd in for pizza slices and unfussy drinks.
The Flinders is a "hotel" only in the Australian sense - like the old English "inns", most Australian hotels turned into pubs a long while ago.
This one is a big ole pile, with a big ole bar in the downstairs and a few rooms upstairs. And, if you're up for shots, DJs, cheap drinks and general late night, dive bar, dance floor messiness, it remains well worth a look.
