Speakeasy style is much more a feature of Melbourne than of Sydney, but this discreet little alleyway number offers plenty of hipster style for your buck.
Ring ahead, or text a codeword from the alleyway to gain access to this converted record store. Sticky Bar is partner to a pretty unique restaurant: Table for 20, which serves a single set meal, with no menu, to a crowd at shared tables.
The bar upstairs feels spacious and warehousey, a mixture of cosy scavenged arm chairs, painted brickwork, and poster collages. The music policy is as eclectic as the bar itself, running from world music to experimental electro. Pretentious? Well, Sticky might sound it. But it doesn't feel it. The punters are relaxed, chilled, not up themselves, and the staff are too.
The drinks? There's a choice of five a week (though the bartenders can do the classics too), painted up on the wall behind the bar. A Chin Chin Sour, based on gin and Cynar artichoke bitters (a popular cocktail ingredient in these parts) hit the spot.
