Bennett has been in existence since 1780, though its original guise as a coal merchants has since seen it become a trendy nightclub in the 1960s (it used to have a glass dancefloor over a fish tank, and it was frequented by Princess Margaret and Lord Lichfield) before being relaunched in 2011 as a seafood-led brasserie and bar.

Its location, down by the river in the cutesy village environment of Battersea Square, is hard to get to, neither being near a Tube stop or with any easy-to-find bus routes, so it's best to hail a cab - though we'd say it's more of a destination if you're already in the area.

Top bartender Dre Masso was charged with creating the drinks list when it opened, but alas the spirit of Dre has left the building and mixed drinks seem to have been relegated to a small selection of classics and twists in favour of a greater concentration on wine. Cocktails aren't mentioned on its website and no mention was made of a bigger list than we saw in venue. Live music enlivens the place even on quiet nights but the staff seem strangely unenthusiastic.
