The sort of venue where you go to round off a hectic Gemmayzeh night, and end up continuing it for longer than you planned, this hipster hangout is a lair of velvet and satin, eclectic stylings and, bizarrely, an illuminated miniature catwalk on which to throw shapes, ironically or otherwise, to rock classics from the last couple of decades.
Behind the Green Door takes its name from an early-70s porno, and, like the green door in the movie, has no sign. Just look for the distressed green door with bouncers standing guard at weekends, on the boundaries of Gemmayzeh and Mar Mikhael, not far from Angry Monkey.
The cocktail menu features long, fruity Mojito-derived affairs, but the drink of choice here is the dou-dou, the Beirut standard shooter, a blend of vodka, olive juice and tabasco with an olive in here, and, lord, do the rounds go down fast.
The bartenders can make a good Negroni, and, we'd imagine, plenty of other drinks as well, but this is really about the buzz: a place to bounce around, make new friends, and stay out later than you'd intended.
