Review

This is a serious beer enthusiast's pub sits on an unattractive stretch of the one way system leading up to Brighton Station, otherwise only notable for its choice of sex shops.

Built in the 19th century, the pub has always been called The Evening Star. The current owners took over the pub in 1992 and a couple of years later stated a microbrewery in the cellar so launching The Dark Star Brewing Company. Although the brewery moved to purpose built premises near Haywards Heath in 2001, the brewery's eponymous award winning beer is still served here. As are half a dozen other regular and changing guest ales plus 28 imported bottled beers. The Espresso coffee beer is exclusively brewed for the pub using coffee beans and has a cult following.

The pine and bare brick interior is sparse and functional but what this tiny pub lacks in luxurious furnishings it makes up for with atmosphere and is often packed in the evenings, especially when there is a live band playing.
