About
Spikes Restaurant is a restaurant and cocktail bar at Vale do Lobo's Parque do Golfe in Almancil. It offers Mediterranean-influenced dishes and a cocktail menu that draws on local ingredients.
Run by brothers Kevin and Alex Belhaj, Spikes has evolved from a conventional golf clubhouse into a restaurant, cocktail bar and lounge with a growing reputation for its drinks. The family took over the venue in 2003, building on a hospitality background that began in Paris, where their parents, Maurice and Fátima Belhaj, ran Le Jeroboam in the 14th arrondissement before relocating to Portugal.
Kevin, a self-taught bartender, introduced a more ambitious cocktail offering in 2014, and the drinks programme has since become one of Spikes' main attractions. Appropriately for its location, the cocktail menu takes the form of a golf scorecard, with each drink assigned a hole and a par. Rather than referring to the number of strokes, the par represents the suggested number of sips needed to finish your cocktail. Guests can even record their scores and take the menu home.
