Previously this blend contained rums from Guyana and Trinidad but the new blend, which coincided with the launch of the new bottle in late 2018, comprises 100% Guyanan rums. Pussers rums are now also blended and bottled in Guyana.
Sampled on 20/09/2018
Clear, deep burnished copper amber with bronze flecks.
Prunes and dried orchard fruit, sherry and treacle with cedar wood, molasses / sticky dark sugar, cinnamon, and rolling tobacco. (The omission of Trinidadian rum has removed the detrimental faint whiff of old-fashioned oil paint in the pre-2018/19 blend.)
Full-bodied and dry with prunes, burnt molasses, toffee, cedar wood, spicy vanilla oak, brazil nut and sherry/madeira. (Again, this new blend benefits from the removal of Trinidadian rum's signature oil paint-like note, it's also much drier, without the sugar added to the previous blend.
Balsamic and sherry with lingering dry oaky cinnamon spice.
The old (pre-2018) 15 year old Pusser's blend was good, but this is great. All it lacks is strength - Navy strength (54.5% alc./vol). Despite this dilution, thanks to unique Guyanan wooden stills and maturity, Pusser's 15 Year Old certainly doesn't lack character - dry yet rounded, coffee, burnt caramel and wood tannins balanced by rich molasses and dried fruit.
