Launched in 1996, this double-distilled Irish single malt whiskey is made using malted barley dried over peat fires with smoke rising through the grain. Consequently it has a distinct peaty flavour, more typical of Scotch whisky and not usually associated with Ireland. Aged for a minimum of 8 years.
Sampled on 29/12/2014
Clear, mid golden amber with polished golden glints.
Sweet barley (touch of barley water) with wafts of peaty smoke, kippers and well baked apple crumble.
Lightly honey sweet, subdued clean rather than sooty smoke with peaty vegetal notes, sweet barley water, light spice and vanilla oak.
Lingering smoke, chocolate, spicy oak and sweet almonds with lingering black pepper.
