A blend of grain, malt and pot still Irish whiskies, this Tullamore Dew expression is named after the phoenix on the Tullamore coat of arms, a symbol of how the residents of Tullamore rebuilt their homes and town after being devastated by the fire which followed the 1785 hot air balloon accident.

Bottled at high strength without chill-filtration.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 11/01/2014

(sample bottle No. 13/00003) Clear, golden amber.

Spicy sandalwood, pencil shavings and vanilla fudge with honey coated barley, leather satchel and walnut. Water releases more nutty sherry notes.

Slightly sweet, honeyed cereal, toasty barley, nutmeg and pot still peppery spice. Very enjoyable at the full 55% but water tames without degrading, exposing more nutty sherry and caramel with elegant oak binding all.

The long finish is a delightful continuation of the palate.
