Poetic License Old Tom Gin is distilled with botanicals such as hibiscus and rose before aging in oak casks. No sugar is added, with makers saying, “From the botanicals alone we nurture its sweet taste.”
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 16/11/2015
Appearance:
(sample bottle batch 2, No. 76 of 600) Clear but not bright, light rose-golden amber.
Aroma:
Piney juniper with nutty woodiness.
Taste:
Dry and spicy. Strong juniper and newly sawn pine tannins with black tea, cracked black pepper spice and calamine floral notes.
Aftertaste:
Dry, black pepper spiced piney juniper.
Overall:
Dry wood tannins from cask aging dominate this spicy old tom, masking subtle notes from botanicals such as rose. Perhaps too long in cask.
