After living in Portugal, Stephan Garbe was inspired to use Portuguese botanicals, particularly lemons and Rockrose (Cistus Ladanifer). Frustrated by Portuguese officialdom he returned to his native Hamburg, Germany to establish his distillery and make his Germanic version of a Portuguese gin.

Fresh lemons arrive at the distillery, shipped by courier from Portugal each week. These are hand-peeled and the fresh peel used to make each batch of Gin Sul. As well as the all-important juniper berries, other botanicals include coriander, fresh rosemary sprigs, allspice lavender, and cinnamon.

Crystal clear.

Candied lemon zest, fresh celery, pine needles and violet blossom with pear drops, tree bark, rosemary and black pepper spice. Water reveals lemon curd and lavender.

Aftertaste:

Clean dry lemon zesty finish with faint floral and rosemary notes.

Overall:

Pine needles, pungent lemon zestiness, floral notes and delicate aromatic rosemary characterise this superbly clean, Portuguese influenced dry gin from Hamburg, Germany.
