Brewed with vanilla and liquorice root, this Dutch porter is spelt with an extra ‘o’ its brewers suggesting that this style of beer may have been a Dutch rather than English creation and “poorter” the original spelling.
Sampled on 31/12/2016
(sample bottle BB 27/May/18) Opaque, deep brown/black with retentive thick beige head and spotted lacing.
Chocolate fudge, coffee cake, charcoal/burnt malt, vanilla and liquorice.
Burnt toast, bitter chocolate, vanilla fudge, piney hops, coffee and liquorice.
Toasted bread, espresso and liquorice and lingering dark chocolate.
This “Poorter” is brewed with vanilla and liquorice, neither of which dominates - instead both sit in balance with notes of chocolate, toasty malt and mocha coffee.
