This 100% agave reposado tequila is matured for two months in new 2oo litre charged American white oak casks.
Tres Generaciones (literally ‘three generations’) is a tribute to the three generations of grandfather, father and son to run the Sauza distillery: Don Cenobio Sauza, Don Eladio Sauza and Don Francisco Javier Sauza, the latter also being responsible for creating Tres Generaciones.
All variants in the Tres Generaciones range are triple distilled, 100% agave tequilas. In Mexico and the U.S. these are sold at 40% abv but sadly in the UK these are only marketed at 38% abv - surely not much of a premium statement, and downright rude with a retail price that breaks the £40 mark. I don’t think it is unfair to say that these are tequilas are made using industrial rather than artisan processes, and despite the rather attractive hand-painted and labeled bottles, which look like metal-clad flagons though are actually painted, are somewhat ambitiously priced.

Initial burst of green melon leads to a herbal lightly spiced nose with hints of blended scotch.
Melon fruit appears briefly again before vanilla is overrun by strong peppery notes. Very lightly oaked and light on herbaceous agave notes.
Unpleasant bitterness lingers.
