A pre-mixed blend of equal parts Nardini Rosso and Nardini Rabarbaro, Mezzo E Mezzo is a popular aperitivo first made at the famous Grapperia Nardini on the Ponte Vecchio in the 1970s when a drinker first tried the two products mixed together.

The combination became increasingly popular, to the extent that this pre-mixed bottled version was launched in 2017.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 08/09/2017

Appearance:

Deep, bronze brown with burnished copper glints.

Aroma:

Caramel and fudge with orange juice, gentian, and faint smouldering wood smoke.

Taste:

Bittersweet with a delicate cleansing spice. Well-balanced. Caramel & liquorice roundness with orange fruitiness, gentian and quinine bitterness, vegetal notes and faint smoky bacon.

Aftertaste:

Long mouth coating herbal liquorice influenced finish with cleansing lingering spice. Fades with light bitterness.

Overall:

This tasty ready-mixed amaro and sweet vermouth aperitivo is best appreciated over ice, enlivened with the merest splash of soda and garnished with half slice orange.
