Released in late 2015, Silverback Gin is based on British wheat spirit redistilled with seven botanicals: juniper, angelica, calamus root, sweet orange, coriander, Madagascan acacia blossom and lemongrass.
Sampled on 02/11/2017
Clear and transparent but with a very fine sediment coating base of the bottle which forms smoke-like wisps when the bottle is agitated.
Piney juniper, floral parma violets, fresh coriander, white pepper and zesty citrus with candied orange, lemongrass and faint ginger.
Dry with juniper to the fore and pronounced spice, pleasing sweet orange and nutty woodiness (perhaps from generous use of angelica root).
Dry piney juniper and zesty citrus.
Classically styled dry gin with zesty orange and lemon citrus, pronounced spice, and faint floral parma violets. Like the eponymous animal this is a big gin with bold flavours. Sadly, our sample bottle of Silverback was let down by a fine sediment leading to questions around if this arose from additives added after distillation?
