This sweetened and mint flavoured Maker’s Mark line extension with lime green wax replacing the signature red wax dipped bottle was created in commemoration of the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby on 3 May 2008.

Maker’s Mark Mint Julep was a limited edition originally sold in Kentucky and its neighbouring states for a suggested retail price of $32.99. Along with the black wax topped high abv bottles this mint version has now gained a cult status place on many a high-end back bar.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Aroma:

Just as the name suggests, Maker’s Mark Mint Julep smells and tastes of mint infused and sweetened bourbon.

Taste:

While the mint is not as fresh and aromatic as it might be if fresh mint were used, it is believably natural and does not overpower the bourbon’s flavour.

Aftertaste:

The sugar level is also well judged and this liqueur still has a spirit bite and is only slightly sweet rather than sickly sweet.
