Created by Biggar & Leith who are also behind the Hotel Starlino range of Vermouth and Aperitivos, Stambecco Amaro is a bittersweet liqueur flavoured with maraschino cherries along with 30 other more traditional amaro botanicals.

Stambecco Amaro takes its name from the Italian for word for the Ibex or long-horned mountain goat which roams the Italian Alps near the distillery. Hence, the word monte, meaning mountain is featured on the label along with a silhouette of a long-horned goat. The heavy glass decanter-style bottle is heavily debossed with raised bumps and is topped by a cherry-red stopper.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Battenburg cake with cherryade and light baking spice.

Taste:

Bittersweet with undulating waves of sweet cherry, marzipan and rooty bitterness.

Aftertaste:

The finish is drier than the palate with long lingering cola cube flavour and rooty bitterness.

Overall:

Somewhat reminiscent of a bitter amaretto.
