Released in January 2023, Hayman's London Light is a low-alcohol distilled spirit at just 12.5% alc./vol. is designed to mix with tonic water to create a low-alcohol G&T.

Distilled to retain the flavour of the botanicals, Hayman's say "London Light is refreshingly citrussy with notes of piney juniper. When served with tonic, the serve contains less than a third of the alcohol of a regular gin and tonic."

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 26/03/2023

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Musky, nutty, damp woody/forest floor aromas from the angelica root are perhaps more pronounced than the lavender, camphor from the juniper.

Taste:

Zesty lemon citrus with supporting angelica and juniper.

Aftertaste:

Pleasing savoury finish.

Overall:

As the name suggests, the lack of alcohol makes this gin-alternative decidedly light but with more mouthfeel than you'd expect. This is not a watered-down gin and it is not a gin. It is an alternative to using gin in a G&T to produce a very low-alcohol drink which predictably lacks the bite of a good G&T but is a tasty-enough option for divers etc.
