Distilled in 1998 at the Westerhall Distillery in Grenada.
Neil Mathieson (Managing Director of specialist drinks importers Eau de Vie) started laying down stocks of rum in the 1990, continually adding “suitable bulk fillings” over the years. The result is the Mezan Barrique XO and Mezan Single Cask rum range, all bottled without filtration, colouring or sweetening. Bottled under contract, these are released once or twice a year depending on sales and Neil’s stated ethos is to continue this, “offering completely natural rums with no further cask influence, through wood or wine finishing.”
Sampled on 17/09/2011
Clear, pale golden.
Creamy fudge and mocha coffee nose with fruit chews and slight vinegar aroma.
Light/medium bodied with espresso coffee, light oak and faint fruit.
Mocha coffee and fudge returns on a lightly spiced, delicately oaked finish.
