Review

A bodega is a South American shop and along one wall is a photo frieze of Christ the Redeemer in Rio. There are potted cacti on the walls, an enormous cactus on the corner of the bar, and lots of cachaça, tequila and mezcals on offer.

Even without the cool South American vibe, the bar is a great space – exposed brick walls, open filament lamps, and a big L-shaped counter running down one side of the room. There’s also a basement bar, ‘The Sugarloaf,’ downstairs.

The obvious thing to order is a pisco sour – in fact there’s a decent list of cachaca, pisco and tequila cocktails, with most drinks at an extremely reasonable £4.50. Spirits are listed between ‘Standard’, ‘Premium’, ‘Luxury’ and ‘World Class’, plus there are plenty of South American beers available.

If you’re heading to Bodega though, we really recommend that you stay to sample some of the food. The best way to tackle the menu is to order as many of the small dishes as you think you’ll be able to manage.
