Weserstraße is an impossibly trendy long road through Neukölln, a district famed for its culture and hipsters. Every second building is a bar or off-licence and crowds of Berliners wander up and down, pausing to listen to street music or watch live performances. Tier is touted as the best bar in the area and something of a more permanent fixture in an area of DIY living room bars.

Sporting a curious hunting-lodge-meets-antiquated-art-deco style, complete with dim lighting and old rock tunes, the bar faces out onto the street with floor length windows. Seasonal cocktails change on a rotating menu with a static list of old classics and updated twists. Drinks are superbly made and bartenders have an impressive repertoire of tales and facts to accompany any serve.

There's a subdued atmosphere, the area doesn't promote boisterous partying, and it's a more intimate affair at Tier but still abuzz with conversation and music. Ask any Berliner on the street and this is where they say to go but be careful, the bar doesn't open on 48-hour festivals for which the area is famed, instead retreating to cater to the weekday's more sophisticated drinkers.
