Review

This is Gordon Ramsay's venture in Camden which combines a bar, restaurant and boutique townhouse hotel, all rolled into the one. The bar is part of the opening foyer, past the hostess station and shielding curtains. Open plan it incorporates strewn couches, coffee tables and some rather glamorous high-backed armchairs near the fire. The bar itself stands facing the doors, impressively long it's black and grey and seats ten or so thirsty customers.

A 22-strong cocktail list boasts classic martinis, short drinks, fizzes, and long drinks. There are a few unique York & Albany creations as well, all loosely based on a Caipirinha serve involving plenty of ice. It's evident that the team here take their cocktails seriously and the bar isn't merely a gimmick or holding pen for waiting diners, rather a well-designed and comfortable venue.

Service is smooth and friendly and the bar area has quite a buzz on weekends with plenty of customers there just for a drink rather than visiting the dining areas. Ultimately though it works better as a neighbourhood hang-out, the bar closer to a gastro-pub than a high-end cocktail bar.
