Reingold is hidden away on a side street in Mitte, behind a pair of high, austere doors. Upon entering, you are greeted by the glow radiating from the gold leaf-covered walls, with plush furnishings adding to the sumptuous feel of this stylish lounge.
The luxuriant walnut bar stretches practically the length of the room toward the centrepiece back wall. This is covered with pages of Thomas Mann's book about his two brilliant yet troubled eldest children, Erika and Klaus. The book pages form the canvas to an oversized art work depicting the siblings, who in the late 1920s used to hang out at the original Reingold bar near Friedrichstrasse. It is also said that the building was owned by the company which built the Reingold Express train.
You will often find a DJ lurking at the end of the bar, but do not fear – nobody dances. It’s not that kind of music and Reingold doesn’t attract that kind of crowd. The broad cocktail list encompasses every classic you can think of, bolstered by house creations
